John has a long history in blues music dating back to an early 70s trip to Chicago where he stayed at Homesick James’ house and met other Chicago stalwarts such as Floyd Jones and Snooky Pryor. His credentials are top-notch, with much of the late 70s spent in the legendary Thunderbird Blues Band in Vancouver. Artists that Thunderbird backed include John Lee Hooker, James Cotton, Albert Collins, Sunnyland Slim and Buster Benton. In the 80-90s John played with numerous hometown Edmonton bands including shows with Pinetop Perkins and a young Colin James. Since moving to the Vancouver Island in 05 John has worked with Bill Johnson (Juno nominated cd “Still Blue”), Harpdog Brown (WCMA nominated cd “What it is”), Jason Buie (“Driftin’ Heart” cd), Harris, Hunter & Fenn (“2017 Bluesville” cd) plus shows with Jimmie D Lane. John has become a popular songwriting collaborator with these artists. His drum style is no-nonsense, a “less is more” approach, influenced by Charlie Watts, Fred Below and other classic blues drummers.
